Hints & tips for your move

If packing yourself, tape boxes securely along the bottom. Always fill boxes to the brim to prevent crushing when stacked. If packing heavier items, half-fill them and pack lighter items at the top, then seal the top with tape. Label each box with its contents and destination room — ideally on the top and side — and leave boxes accessible for the removal team.

Take down curtains and blinds before the team arrives. Pictures and mirrors should be taken down, wrapped for protection (using bubble wrap or picture cartons), and neatly stacked. We can supply additional wrapping materials at cost, although valuable items are best professionally packed by our team.

All gas, water, and electrical appliances must be disconnected before the removal team arrives — our staff cannot legally disconnect these. Please empty, defrost, and clean fridges and freezers before moving day.

Our team will dismantle and reassemble furniture if arranged at the quotation stage. Please note we cannot dismantle or reassemble furniture that is glued or nailed (rather than screwed) — this needs to be taken apart beforehand.

This type of equipment is best packed in its original boxes. If you no longer have the specialist packaging, let us know in advance and we’ll work with you on the best way to protect it.

We supply hanging wardrobe cartons for clothes on hangers on removal day (or prior if pre-arranged). Chests of drawers can usually be moved full (please confirm this with your estimator). Pack other clothing in boxes, strong bags, or suitcases, and box all bedding and linen unless we’re packing for you.

Our employees are legally unable to enter unboarded lofts or attic rooms due to insurance restrictions. Please declare all loft contents to your estimator and move these items down to an accessible room before we arrive so nothing is left behind.

We cannot take any food items into storage. For standard moves, please sort food before moving day, secure packets, jars, and lids with tape when boxing, and clearly label the boxes with ‘Keep Upright’ to prevent spills.

Consider hiring a skip for accumulated items. Bundle long-handled tools together. For safety, our insurance strictly prohibits us from moving flammable substances (e.g. tins of paint, diesel, petrol, paraffin, gas bottles, matches). Please drain fuel from lawnmowers and machinery, and dismantle garden structures before moving day.

Plants and pots can be moved, but please discuss this with your estimator beforehand. Please note that outdoor pots and living plants are not covered by our insurance due to the risk of frost damage or natural perishability.
